City Of Fairfield
County Seat Since 1858

The sign welcomes visitors and residents alike to downtown Fairfield

Formally incorporated in 1903, Fairfield celebrated its 100 birthday in 2003. Fairfield is a growing community, eager to service the business needs of the 21st century. As the County Seat, Fairfield represents a diverse, bustling economy in one of the fastest growing counties in California. In Fairfield, small town values remain, but Fairfield is no longer just an attractive tree-lined bedroom community serving San Francisco and the Sacramento metropolitan areas. Its regionally strategic location, extensive transportation network, readily available and inexpensive land and space for office, industrial and commercial users, makes Fairfield a prime location

One of the major employers in the United States Air Force. In 1942 the United States Air Force decided to build a major base installation on a tract of land located to the east of Fairfield, giving a tremendous boost to the local economy. Travis Air Force Base became one of the major departure points for military units heading for combat in Vietnam, Desert Storm and the recent war in Iraq. The base was annexed to Fairfield on March 30, 1966.

Fairfield residents are a lively and fun-loving crowd. Consequently, festivals and community activities are abundant year-round. The downtown hosts a variety of events and festivities headed by the Downtown Improvement District. The weekly Certified Farmer’s Market is heaven to those who prefer the freshness of locally grown products and who like to mingle with the community. Each summer the market features fresh fruit, vegetables, bakery items, honey and a variety of other agricultural produce from local and regional growers.

community. Each summer the market features fresh fruit, vegetables, bakery items, honey and a variety of other agricultural produce from local and regional growers. Also featured in the summer is the Annual Summer Concert Series, which features musical artists from around the country. Families come countywide to enjoy the
entertainment. Other events found in the Downtown include various parades, craft fairs, the Peddler Faire, the Tomato Festival, Candy Festival and Holiday Night of
Lights. After a long day of strolling the streets of downtown, you can stop by the City’s 380 seat Center for Creative Arts to enjoy the art and performances it
offers. From comedy to musicals and opera to high drama, the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts hosts a broad range of entertainment.

The City’s modern and well equipped Community Center is home to several
preschool, arts, crafts, dance, music and nature study programs. A network of
parks with jogging and biking paths within the City offer ample opportunities for
hiking, picnics and other outdoor activities. The City boasts of 18 parks and
recreation centers including Linear Park, a trail converted railroad row that intersects the City and Rockville Hills Regional Park, the largest regional park in Solano County with more than 600 acres.

In Fairfield, golfing enthusiasts can choose between two championship golf courses: Rancho Solano Golf Course and Paradise Valley Golf Course. Executive-style residential developments neighbor the golf courses and compliment the calm of the surrounding rolling hills and open spaces.

Fairfield has much to offer, and is still one of the affordable cities in Solano County to purchase a home. Still, Fairfield retains the charm and vitality of a small, thriving community.
